if i got you right you want to get shown all words beginning with a specific pair of letters such as 'gl'? then use the feature of this thread. enable autodisplay, set minimum characters to two, and it will pop up the completion box after two letters fot the corresponding combination.

There are times when it automatically selects text that matches the first part of the keystrokes, when there is only one match, for example. I do not ever want it to automatically select that option, but rather to always pop up the completion box. Is there a setting for this?

not that i'm aware of. that's why i also supplied a patch for that here but it didn't get reviewed yet.
keep in mind, that the patch for 4375 i offered there also includes the autodisplay patch, means you have to repatch a clean 4375 checkout.
