Session saving and/or loading not working

I just updated from version 5.4 to 9.1.4 64 bit on Windows 7 and session saving or loading isn't working when I close the application without first closing the workspace. If I close the workspace first and then load it from Workspace > Open Workspace it's fine. However if I close the workspace and then the application and directly open the workspace by double clicking the *.workspace file again it does not load the last session. All this worked in 5.4 but sometimes some tabs were missing after loading which is the reason I finally decided to update. Also how is the file with the themes/style settings called because the old one was deleted after the update. I copied the old installation before the update but I can't find which file it was.
