If it works for you, uncheck the "Use the editor's font encoding" box in the Find In Files dialog. You'll notice faster search speeds.

I already removed it from the default settings this afternoon - I noticed it slowed down the 'Tasks' pane

Yes, that's where I got the idea from

But I wanted people to know this in case they had checked that setting, overriding the defaults.
