project macros

Is there a reason that $(ProjectOutputFile) cannot be use as 'Program to run/Debug' ?
The macro expands to an empty string. (I Noted that the macro is not proposed in "Help..." window).
When using in external tool, it expands correctly (except in the "Help..." window).
'Preview' values seem to be activated only when a file is opened in the "Help..." window.
I find that "Help..." is misleading for a window displaying the list of usable MACROs.
